31 Calming January Affirmations to Reset After the Holidays

Happy 2026, Cycle Breakers!

Anyone else feeling the quiet pressure of a ‘new’ beginning? A new calendar, new goals, new energy in the air. It’s almost like there is an unspoken expectation that the start of the year should somehow feel different?

And maybe the new year energy really resonates with you, and maybe it doesn’t, both can be true. Whether you’re welcoming 2026 with excitement or would prefer a softer, slower start (I am definitely part of this crowd), these January affirmations will meet you where you are.

January is definitely a weird month for me. All the noise from the holidays is now over. While the goal of January isn’t to reinvent yourself, I do appreciate the small window of opportunity where you get to slow down and be intentional about your year going forward.

January doesn’t have to be all ‘new year, new me’ energy, but can also be a continuation. It’s a chance to reflect on your previous year, think more broadley about what I want the year to look like, and make choices with more awareness.

This is where affirmations can be really powerful, helping you reframe negative self-talk for positive self-talk. Research backs this up, too, showing how practicing affirmations can lead to improvements in how people cope with stress, how open they are to change, and how they see themselves.

Don’t think of these January affirmations as overnight shifts, but instead small improvements that become more noticeable over time.

It’s definitely a long-term game rather than quick motivation, the kind that will compound quietly throughout the year.

How to Use These January Affirmations

Practicing affirmations doesn’t require a perfect morning routine or doing it right. Think about these January affirmations as a gentle check-in for when you need them.

Read through the affirmations and notice the ones that you like. Write them down somewhere, save them on your iPhone notes, or simply come back to this post. You don’t need to practice saying all 31 of them, just a few chosen ones are enough.

I like to use affirmations in the moment when I am thrown off by something, or I have the urge to push through instead of slowing down. Saying one affirmation slowly, with a few deep breaths, really helps reset my nervous system without it becoming a big deal.

If you’re someone who likes to journal, write down your chosen affirmation at the top of the page and write about what it would look like to live this affirmation in small, realistic ways. Or simply write the affirmation at the top of the page as an intention for the day.

And if some days you forget about these January affirmations, that’s OK too. Come back to them whenever you need to center yourself.

    Final Thoughts…..

If there is anything you take away from this post, it’s the gentle reminder that you don’t need to make dramatic changes in this month for the year to count. You are not behind. Let January be a place you can land and choose what feels the most realistic for you right now, not what you think you should be doing.

I know there can be a lot of pressure at the start of the new year (trust me, I felt it too), but real change rarely comes through short-term change. It requires you to show up, again and again, BUT in a way that is sustainable for you.

So, these January affirmations, while they won’t magically change your life, will give you the push you need to keep going. Slowly, imperfectly, and in a way that works for YOU!

Take what you need from the list and leave the rest. I promise no rule says you have to start your January perfectly for the rest of your year to turn out okay.

I am always rooting for you, cycle breakers!
